Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator

My first impression was that the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator arrived broken, but with a little bit of fiddling, I got it to buzz.

The Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator is so pretty, part of me wants to turn it into a decoration to hang on the Christmas tree this year.

To be honest, I thought this toy arrived broken. This is why I’m only just getting round to review it now, I tried to get it to work for some time, then gave up. When rounding up all my toys I fiddled around a bit more, and voila, a working vibrator! For once, I fixed something instead of breaking it, it’s a near Christmas miracle.

(Before anyone mentions it, it wasn’t because there was a piece of cardboard on top of the battery.)

First Impressions

As usual, the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator arrived in the standard black and gold Rocks Off packaging, with an added flair for the Joycicles line. I’ve always been a fan of the packaging, it’s simple and elegant – and there’s not too much of it! Unfortunately, between all my memory cards, the original pictures I took have disappeared, but here’s one of the official product pictures, just imagine there’s purple in place the blue.

On a more practical note, I think these vibrators would have more longevity of sale if they didn’t have the heart and star design around the lid. I don’t mind the design, but I definitely would have preferred the toy without the design. They’ve produced a few similar colours in this style of toy and I think the Unihorn is much better.

Opinions in Use

In use, the vibrators are very surface level buzzy, but they’re powerful, and there’s a good amount of variety in patterns. If you’re looking for a deep rumbly vibrator, this won’t be the toy for you. My clit doesn’t seem loyal, or particular to a certain type of vibration, so I found myself enjoying the lighter buzzy vibrations. I did find myself wondering how best to hold the Rocks Off Joycicles Sparkle Shimmer, whilst the indents are good for grip, I do wish they’d been placed just a little lower down.

In terms of volume, the Shimmer is fairly quiet. But, if you don’t want other people in the house to know what you’re doing, it’s easily covered with ambient noise or music.

To clean the Shimmer vibrator all you need is a bit of soap, and water as it’s made from body-safe ABS plastic. Just be careful around the silicone button – the Rocks Off logo means you need to make sure you get in the crevices.

Positives

  • Light Pinpoint Vibrations: I really love how all the vibrations are concentrated on the tip of the toy. The design and battery placement also means there’s a nice weight to the Shimmer vibrator, and that’s reflected in how easy it is to drag over your body. Rather like the Zumio, you can slide it down by your clit, instead of on top for a less intense time.
  • Variety of Vibrations: The Rocks Off Joycicles Sparkle Shimmer is easy to use and has 10 settings, 3 of which are speeds – the standard ‘slow, medium, high’, and 7 patterns ranging from short pulses to a repeated 3-second gradual increase of power. I really like how the first setting is actually slow, and it’s a pretty decent warm-up speed. To turn it off, you need to hold down for 3 seconds, and to turn it on just hold it down for a second.
  • Powerful: I was quite surprised by just how much power is in the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator even though it only uses 1 AAA battery, which is included (thank you Rocks Off!). This shouldn’t come as a shock to me as I own many Rocks Off toys, and they’re all-powerful, but I’ve been trying out some lackluster vibes recently, and it’s a nice reminder.
  • Discrete Design: The Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator is made from hard ABS plastic, and the top of the toy has a purple silicone button, and the colour fades from a deep purple into silver. Aside from other Rocks Off toys, I’ve not seen a faded colour on a vibrator before, and I’m a fan. I also really like the spiral detail to make it look like an icicle. I’d say that the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator is a  discreet bullet vibrator, and even more so around Christmas. You might think that’s a little bit of a push, but if you’ve got festive decorations everywhere, this fits right in! Just make sure no one tries to touch it.

Negatives

  • Temperamental and Tight: As I mentioned, I thought this toy arrived broken. It wasn’t until my partner and I did a lot of fiddling (*wink wink*) did we get it to work. Part of me thinks it’s because the battery space is so darn tight – it’s an absolute pain to get out, but who knows. If you do want to remove the battery, it might take a minute or five, unscrewing the top, and shaking lightly it does barely anything, so you’ll have to put ‘the last few seconds of a handjob’ sort of effort behind it.
  • Fiddly Screw: It sounds like a sexy cocktail, but unfortunately it’s a big let down with the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator. I know it has to be designed in a way to make it waterproof, but the ‘locking’ system just adds to the frustration of the screen, not to mention it’s a little squeaky at times.
  • Slippery When Wet: ABS plastic is great, but for a waterproof toy, a toy that’s completely ABS plastic (not to mention round) is a pain to handle when wet. Not so much a fault, but something to keep in mind.
  • Paint Job: Whilst body-safe, and non-porous, I do wonder about the design. The faded shimmer seems painted on, and the last thing you want is to get flecks of paint on your body. I did give it a good old scratch with various implements, but it seems fine, but do keep an eye on it!
  • Button” For all the available space on the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator, there’s only one small button. Whilst I don’t mind that there’s only one button, I would have really liked to see the button take up the full space, as I found myself pressing it with my nail more often than not.

Companies, if you think your button is the perfect size, make it bigger! There’s usually so much available space around buttons that there’s no excuse.  Also, leave the logo off the buttons! Those of us with sensitive fingers will thank you.

Accessibility

The vibrations in the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator are concentrated at the tip of the toy, so it’s easier to hold when compared to most bullet vibrators. For under £20 you get a powerful, good looking vibrator that, due to the round design, feels good in your hand

However, my main problem with the Shimmer vibrator is that whilst the button is fairly easy to press, the logo gets in the way. Instead of a nice smooth surface, it’s bumpy and uncomfortable. My other main, very frustrating negative is that getting the battery out is a job for Indiana Jones, but only sometimes. There’s no rhyme or reason to it working, it’s up to some unseen force.

Positives:

  • Body-safe – ABS plastic.
  • Pinpoint vibrations.
  • Powerful for a budget vibrator.
  • Good Design
  • Indents on the side give some grip.
  • Easy to use.

Negatives:

  • Temperamental
  • Tight battery compartment.
  • Slippery when wet.
  • Fiddly to screw on.
  • A small button with a stand out sharp logo.
  • Potential for the design flaking off.

Conclusion

Though it might be more of a novelty toy, it is cute to look at, a good stocking filler and feels good in use. I’d go so far as to say it’s one of the best bullet vibrations under £20 that I’ve found. Well, it would be if it wasn’t for just how bloody temperamental it is! I actually got frustrated by this, and I don’t get frustrated with sex toys often. The last thing anyone wants when masturbating is to take time out to figure out why your toy has suddenly stopped working.

I can only say that if you do purchase the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator, please be aware of the potential unpredictability of it, and have your Indiana Jones had at the ready!

Update: You can no longer purchase the Rocks Off Joycicles Shimmer Vibrator, but you can still purchase the Rocks Off Unihorn – which is essentially the Shimmer Vibrator in Summer colours!

I was given this toy to review by Rocks Off in exchange for an honest, and unbiased review.
