Buying Sex Toys 3: Types of Toys

There are a plethora of sex toys to choose from nowadays.

There are a plethora of sex toys to choose from nowadays, and when you think about just how many there are, it’s kind of intimidating. I’ve covered buying sex toys, and I’ve also covered the materials sex toys can be made from, but this time we’re going to discuss the different types of sex toys available to purchase.

Vibrators

These can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Vibrators can be used by all genders and on all body parts. You might see them referred to as ‘personal massagers’ on sites like Amazon. Vibrators can be rechargeable, take batteries, and there are even a few which are powered by the mains.

Dildos

Dildos are toys designed for penetration. Generally, they do not vibrate, though some do have a slot to put a bullet vibrator in them, and like vibrators, they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some are even shaped to look like pop culture characters and mythical beasts.

Dildos can be used with harnesses like strap-ons or thigh straps and can also be used with attachments to turn them into knuckle duster dildos – the Vac-U-Lock system from Doc Johnson.

Always make sure your dildos are body-safe, and if in doubt, always put a condom on the toy.

Masturbation Sleeves

A toy for penises, masturbation sleeves are flexible and fit over the penis to provide different sensations depending on the design of the inside of the sleeve. The sleeves range in thickness from being paper-thin to thick rubber encased in a plastic exterior. There are even some masturbation sleeves that vibrate.

Anal Sex Toys

Anal sex toys are different from dildos because toys designed for anal should always have a flared base, so the toy doesn’t get lost. Other anal toys are butt plugs, anal beads, and prostate massagers (toys specifically designed to stimulate the prostate).

Position Enhancers

Used to make sex more comfortable, position enhancers can be as simple as a wedge of foam or a pillow. They can be as simple as an Amazon mobility wedge or as specialist as the Liberator line of foam supports.

Impact Toys

There is a wide range of impact toys on the market today, for example, whips, floggers, paddles, and canes. However, there are also a number of at-home implements that can be used, like the common hairbrush, ruler or shoehorn.

Hitting the body with any of these implements leaves the flesh feeling sensitive.

Sensation Play

Blindfolds, feathers, ticklers, massage oils, and pinwheels are all sensation toys that are used to heighten your senses. They can be used on already sensitised skin or used to craft a sensual scene.

Restraints

Ropes, handcuffs, cuffs, nylons, and ties can be used to restrain your partner. When using anything that restrains someone, care must be taken. Always keep the key or a pair of EMT shears handy for a quick escape – you can find them for as little as £3 on eBay.

E- Stimulation

Electrostimulation involves the application of electrical stimulation to nerves through pads and toys such as dildos, plugs, urethral probes, cock rings, and CBT boards. Under the umbrella term of ‘e-stim’, you will find TENS units, violet wands, and EMS (electrical muscle stimulation).

E-stim must never be used above the waist as it can cause cardiac arrhythmia. It must also never be used if someone has a pacemaker. Always check the instructions before using any electro devices.

As you can see, there are many different sex toys on the market, and many can be found in your home. This is just a basic overview. I recommend having a good Google, finding a store you like, and then perusing what they have on offer.
